RM22si Signature
The RM22si Signature has created something of a stir among knowledgeable audiophiles. Stereophile's Senior Contributing Editor, Jonathan Scull, even went so far as to proclaim, "if these smooth, sweet, BIG-sounding speakers aren't the hit of Hifi '97, I 'll eat my shorts!" Happily for Mr. Scull (and his shorts), the speaker was the hit of that event, voted into the top ten of the "Best Sound At Show" survey.
The RM22si delivers the spaciousness previously associated with panel speakers, but with the superb image focus of a mini monitor and dynamics of a full sized speaker. In fact many panel speaker owners have traded up to the RM22si, finding the virtues of their old panels matched with the additional capabilities of the 22's.
The RM22si's sound is made possible by several key Joseph Audio technologies:
- Metal cone woofer - Aluminum cones are extremely rigid, resulting in very clear dynamic sound free from the common midrange resonances that mar the performance of conventional plastic or paper cones. This woofer is equipped with an extended pole piece that acts as a "phase plug" extending the usable dispersion of the woofer at the top end of its range, and displacing any resonances that could form inside the cavity of a conventional dustcap.
- Silk dome tweeter - These latest generation silk/fabric dome tweeters offer sweet smooth extended highs, without any of the "oil-can" resonances found in metal domes. The result is a natural sounding treble range that reveals all the detail and beauty of the music.
- Infinite Slope crossover - the patented Infinite Slope Crossover virtually eliminates the interactions between the drivers, so the sound that comes from the woofer is separate and distinct from that of the tweeter. It also optimizes the sound of each the drivers, permitting the use of such exotic materials as aluminum cones, while effectively silencing the ringing that such drivers can exhibit in conventional implementations.
- Sand fillable Silent Box enclosure
The RM22si is also very easy to live with, the sand fillable enclosure is only 8.5" wide and 10.5" deep, with a very small footprint, and its clean classic lines fit in with a wide range of decors without dominating the room. Available from $2499 in Oak, Black, Cherry (shown) and Rosewood finish.
